King Dasharatha
-Ruled Ayodhya, a beautiful prosperous city
-had palace guarded like a stronghold
-but had no sons is was sad

Dasharatha's sons
-Dasharatha sacrificed a horse and the god promised him 4 sons

Rama Avatar of Vishnu
-Ravana was taking over everything
-Vishnu dividing himself into 4 sons of Dasharatha
-one of these sons was Rama, the most beautiful

Vishvamitra
-Vishvamitra was a rishi
-his sacrifices were being disturbed by Ravana
-Dasharatha welcome Vishvamitra and promised any gift he could give
-he needed Rama to help overcome the devils polluting his sacrifice
-with sorrow Dasharatha sent Rama with his brother Lakshmana to help

Thataka
-On their journey the three ran into Thataka, a rakshasa
-They killed her and were rewarded with celestial weapons
-later once they reached the sages dwelling, they tried to perform a sacrifice
-during this Thataka's son and company tried to defile the sacrifice
-using his celestial weapons Rama beat all of them

Bhagiratha and Ganga
-There was a king who wanted sons
-He got sons and wanted to give a horse sacrifice
-the horse was sent to roam for 1 year before the sacrifice but was stolen
-the king sent his 60,000 sons to find the horse
-the horse was taken by a sage who turned them all to ash
-worried the king sent his grandson who found the horse and the dead
-the only way to send his ancestors to heaven was through water obtained form Ganga
-he tried and died, but his son,Bhagiratha ate once a month and got a wish
-he wished for the water of Ganga
-with Shiva and Ganga it rained and his ancestors were able go to the underworld

Ahalya
-Ahalya was turned into a sad sexless thing by Indra
-the curse was reversed when she paid her dues to Rama

Sita
-Rama and his brother go to the marketplace
-Rama and Sita, a princess, make eye contact
-They immediately fall in love

King Janaka
-Vishwanaitra, Rama, and his brother visit the king of Mithila
-They ask if they can behold Shiva's bow
-It is wheeled out on a giant 8-wheeled chariot
-Janaka says whoever can bend it may marry my daughter, Sita

Rama Wins Sita
-Rama bend and breaks Shiva's bow winning Sita
-When the bow breaks is super loud and shakes the earth

Parashurama
-Powerful sage of the woods comes in to see who broke the bow, he's angry
-Rama steps in between the sage and his brother as to make peace
-sage asks Rama to use his bow of Vishnu, different bow
-Rama uses it and the sage says "Glory to the mighty Rama"

Rama and Sita's Wedding
-Rama marries Sita
-Lakshman marries Urmila, Sita's sister
-others get married as well

Rama and Heir Apparent
-Rama is to be named the Heir of his father's land
-Dasharatha asks his parliament of men, they said yes

Manthara and Kaikeyi
-Manthara was the old nurse of Bharata son of queen Kaikeyi
-Manthara convinces Kaikeyi to go to the maharajah and seek two boons which were previously promised

Kaikeyi and Dasharatha
-Kaikeyi asks for her son Bharata to be Yuvarajah and for Rama to be exiled to the wood for 14 years
-Dasharatha hated her for this, but must honor his word or Kaikeyi would kill herself that night

Rama is Banished
-Rama learned the news of Kaikeyi's wishes
-He obeyed without hesitation and left that very day

Rama Goes into Exile
-Sita and Lakshman demand they follow Rama into the jungle
-He tries to convince them otherwise, but they refuse to not go
-Rama wears the Bark dressings along with his brother, but Sita does not

Crossing the River
-They crossed the Ganga
-Rama was sad of what had transpired
-His brother comforted him
-They both vowed to protect Sita

Dasharatha's Karma
-Dasharatha accidentally killed a boy of two hermits while hunting
-He told them and the father, who was blind, told him that he would feel this pain one day
-the old hermit and his wife jumped into the flames of the boy's funeral

Dasharatha's Death
-He died of grief for losing his two sons
-His wives swooned over his death
