Reading Notes: Week 4 Reading C

Sugriva and Hanuman Author: Geraldine Hodgson
-Hanuman took the form of a begger to approach the brothers
-asks them what they are doing in the lake country
-they respond after he reveals himself to be the messenger of Surgiva
-they want to be placed under his protection
-Sugriva needs their help as well

 Sugriva's Story
-Sugriva was told by brother Vila to guard a hole while he chased something in it
-After one year and seeing blood come out and not hearing his brother he thought he was dead
-Sugriva then blocked the hole as to not let the creature out
-vila was alive and got out and exciled Sugriva and took away his wife for not believing his story
-Rama tells Sugriva to challenge Vila in battle

Sugriva and Vali Author: Romesh Dutt
-Sugriva challenges Vali
-Tara Vali's wife warns him that Rama might be allied with him
-Sugriva does not care and accepts the battle

Vali's Death
-Vali wreck Sugriva
-Rama steps in and shoots Vila killing him

King Sugriva
-They appoint Sugriva as king as it's Rama's will

The Raint Season
-They are going to stay in Kishkindha until the month of Kartik, when the rain stops

-After being threatened by Lakshmana Sugriva kept his promise and sent out armies to search for Sita

Sampati Author: Sister Nivedita
-The monkeys could not find Sita
-They come across a vulture, brother of Jatayu, Sampati who says she's in Lanka, over the sea

-The two brother vultures raced through Indra's world, but the sun made Jatayu pass out
-Sampati protected him from the sun, but his wings were burned off
-Now he waits for a saint to give him back his wings as told by a hermit
-He thinks it's Rama

Hanuman's Leap Author: Sister Nivedita
-He jumped across the ocean
-got caught by a rakshasi midway, but broke he and went ashore super tired

Hanuman fights Rakshasi

Hanuman in Lanka
-He searched everywhere for Sita but could not find her
-Almost mistook Mandodari, Ravana's queen, for Sita
-he realized Sita would not be with Ravana though
-So he left the palace

-Hanuman found Sita here surrounded by she-Demons

Sita and Ravana Author: Sister Nivedita
-After Ravana failed to woo Sita he threatened her with torture and death after 3 months
-Ravana left and the she-demons and Siat crept towards the tree Hanuman was in

Hanuman and Sita Author: Donald A. Mackenzie
-Sita met with Hanuman, who carried Rama's ring as proof of who he was
-Sita gave him a jewel to bring back to Rama and told Hanuman she had 3 months to live
-She did not want to touch another man

Hanuman Captured Author: Sister Nivedita
-Hanuman staarted wrecking the place and defeeated everyone Ravana sent for him
-He was binded via a Brahma shaft
-The rakshasas bounded hmi more, which broke the initial bind, so he could escape
-He was carried off to Ravana

Hanuman and Ravana
-Hanuman tells Ravana he is a messenger of Rama and to release Sita
-Ravana says nah, but cannot justly kill Hanuman as he is a messenger
-so Ravana thinks to set his tails on fire

Lanka Burning
-his tail was set ablaze, but Sita prayed for him and the fire became cool
-Hanuman burned half of Lanka to the ground
-He told Sita Rama would come for her and lept over the ocean again

The March on Lanka
-The entire monkey army led by Sugriva and Rama set out to capture Lanka
-Set camp at the ocean

Ravana's Court Author: Romesh Dutt
-Ravan's court welcome their help to defeat Rama and Lakshmana

Vibhishana Author: Donald A. Mackenzie
-Ravana's council of war advised him to wage war
-Ravana's brother, Vibhishana, told him to return Sita
-Ravana banished him and told him to join Rama's forces so he did

Hello all, my name is Zach and this is a story all about how my life got turned upside down. i.e college. I started out college believing it would be easy, like most people I imagine. Then I realized I was dumb and knew nothing and actually had to study for exams. It wasn't until my junior year that I really figured out how to college. I have a dual major in mechanical engineering and computer science that I will be completing over 5 years, I'm currently in my fourth, unless I fail something, then I'll probably just drop one of them and graduate. My biggest accomplishment last year was keeping a reasonable sleep schedule, which made me realize that sleep is actual important for being able to retain information. Feedback Strategies: Process Praise and Mirror Feedback

Be a Mirror This article is useful as it lists out examples as to how each of the 5 useful qualities within feedback is presented. I always find that being specific when talking to people can show you are genuinely interested in their life, but I never thought this could be utilized when giving feedback. Another important quality is to not tell them they are missing something as that does not allow growth because they did not put any effort into something they did not even think of. The most interesting point in this article was to take oneself out of the feedback. Everyone enjoys talking about themselves, but in the case where you are giving feedback it's best to not say why I think something because it takes away from their growth.
